Gemma's background has been predominantly in the hospitality sector, with 15 years experience, but when the opportunity arose a little over 5 years ago to work and train under the reputable Faye Warren of 'That Wild Bunch', she grabbed it.. A total novice but with the passion to learn this incredible skill, she found the experience to be invaluable and life changing.
During the course of lockdown, like many others, Gemma delved in to the world of candle making and started creating gift packages to cheer others up in those uncertain times, and for friends birthdays etc. Lock down is also the start of the brand being named Basil + Pip; after filtering through many ideas this one seemed to stick. Gemma said of the name 'Truth be told, there is no rhyme or reason to it, we just like it'
'Having fallen in love with Norfolk from my first visit; doing a wedding for friends at Voewood, North Norfolk, 2019, I was smitten, to say the least. It was by chance (after one of the many lockdowns 2021), I was asked to house-sit for friends in the beautiful area of Hockering, from there I explored all around, and from that point on- the want to up sticks and leave London was imminent, taking every opportunity that we could to visit. From a lovely day dream, to making it to reality in the summer of 2022- I still can't quite believe we have done it, but I haven't once looked back. My son and I are so happy here with our new lifestyle... wonderful greenery and beautiful beaches never far away. Since realising our dream, all has happened rather serendipitously, and I am so grateful for it all. The introduction to our shop location at the Royal Arcade, was just another wonderful finding that happened to feel right and has worked out. Its the most beautiful building in the heart of Norwich and we hope that we do it and the people of Norfolk proud. Im so happy to have the doors finally open and look forward to discussing all things flowers and events with our new customers'.

Basil + Pip did the flowers for our London wedding in September 2022 and I can't recommend Gemma enough - she is very talented and a lovely person too. I shared a few images of styles I liked and samples of the fabrics in the dresses/suits. From there on, it was the perfect example of trusting a creative to do their thing... and I'm so glad I did! Gemma got what we wanted and respected our budget, cleverly turning the pew ends from the church into beautiful, understated table decorations for our reception venue. I was lost for words when she handed me my bouquet. Obviously I am biased, but they were the most stunning bridal and bridesmaid bouquets I've seen and so many of our guests complimented them, even after the wedding day. Gemma suggested working in a few dried flowers, which I'm so pleased about because my bridesmaids and I all have them on display at home. She also made a very special buttonhole for my husband, who had lost his groomsman earlier in the year. It's something we will always treasure.

I was fortunate enough to attend a hen doo where we took part in a flower crown workshop by Basil+Pip. Not only was Gemma the most down-to-earth and friendly host, her organisation, patience and attention to detail was second to none! If I remember correctly, none of the attendees had ever done anything like this before and by the end of the workshop we had all created something to be proud of! The workshop was a great way of bringing all of the hen party together and I wouldn't hesitate in contacting Basil + Pip to do something similar again in the future! Thank you! 😊

Gemma did my wedding flowers (which were stunning) but I also used to get weekly flower bouquets to sell at my cafe in London which were extremely popular.
